This area was developed by the bacteriologist Alexandre Yersin for the cultivation of cinchona, the source of quinine used to treat malaria. The fern grasslands remain as a legacy of that period (7 May 2014).

By 2026, a large temple had been built on the former fern grasslands, and the surrounding landscape had changed considerably (4 May 2026).

The summit area is covered with rich forest dominated by Quercus and Lithocarpus, although trails accessible on foot are limited (7 May 2026).
